OLF and Timret for Ethiopia(ALEJE): Conducted the successful public meeting in Oslo, Norway
Norway is one of the western countries where Ethiopians are working under the umbrella of support and political organizations and actively engaged in supporting the struggle for democracy, freedom, the rule of law and justice in Ethiopia. These organizations regularly update the international community with the egregious human rights violations and atrocities the Ethno fascist regime of Meles Zenawi is committing against Ethiopians. In this case, Democratic Change in Ethiopia Support Organization Norway (DCESON) is one of these organizations operating in Norway. DCESON invites different guests (politicians and activists) to discuss the current political situation in the country and the struggle needed to remove the repressive and corrupt regime of the ethno-fascist Meles Zenawi with the Ethiopian public and government officials.
Presently, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) lead by General Kemal Gelchu and Timret, Alliance for Liberty, Equality and Justice in Ethiopia (ALEJE) are jointly conducting a series of public meetings in eleven cities of five different countries in the world. The Norwegian capital Oslo was one of the venues chosen for this purpose and a public meeting was held on March 10, 2012. The aim of the meeting was to achieve unity of purpose, organize and mobilize Ethiopians for the democratic struggle. The meeting was jointly called and organized by the OLF`s Norway branch and Democratic Change in Ethiopia Support Organization Norway.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Dawit Mekkonen, the chairperson of the DCESON. He welcomed the guest speakers and the audience and further expressed his happiness for the closure of the divisive political barriers that kept apart Oromo brothers and sisters from other Ethiopians for many years in Norway. The division has damaged our unity, and made it possible for the TPLF/EPRDF regime to stay in power and prolong the suffering of Ethiopians in the country. He further stressed that the OLF flag has a big tree in the middle which indicates that the Oromo people are the main stem of the country. How can the stem separate from a tree? He asked. Following this, he praised and admired the OLF’s leadership for their commitment and wise decision. He pointed out that we have now demolished the barrier and established the foundation for unity and promised to work hard to strengthen the unity and build mutual trust.
The first Guest speaker was Mr. Kassim Aba Nasha, Head of the Foreign Affairs and member of the OLF Executive Committee.
He spoke about the background that pushed OLF to review its political program, make adjustments and decide to work with other Ethiopian democratic political forces. The OLF has taken this bold and remarkable decision with a strong conviction that the interests and rights of the Oromos can best be ensured and protected if his organization cooperate and work with the other Ethiopian democratic forces and succeed to establish a democratic, free and impartial system in the country.
Mr. Kassim mentioned that though the Oromo people faced oppression and suffering for many years under the different regimes, we have to put all these behind us and work together to build a fair and impartial system. He noted that from now on the OLF will not spend its precious time on the past and remain the prisoner of history. He received a loud applause from the audience when he repeated and emphasized that we made this decision at this time because we wish our children a better future and to live in peace and harmony with their Ethiopian brothers and sisters in this country.
One of the meeting moderators and OLF representative of Europe, Mr. Dabaa Gudetaa pleased the audience by assuring that the Oromo will not break off! Oromo is the stem as it is known. If we are forced to do so, we will take you all together, he said.
The second guest speaker was Mr. Yusuf Yassin, political analyst for African horn. He presented a sociological assessment on the various Ethiopian communities. He dealt with the current reality in Ethiopia and explained how identity feelings give rise to and influence nationalism.
Dr. Tadesse Biru, the member of the executive committee of the Ginbot7 movement for Justice, freedom and Democracy represented the Alliance for Liberty, Equality and Justice in Ethiopia (Timret) was the third guest speaker. He presented detailed analyses on the importance of coalition and unity in the struggle for democracy and justice in today’s Ethiopia. He elaborated on the reasons for building a coalition, the partners and the difficulties faced in forming it. Dr. Tadesse explained clearly Ginbot7’s position and the benefits of coalition, and he expressed his appreciations to OLF leadership for their determination to take this wise decision.
Finally, Dr. Tadesse Biru emphasized the importance of strengthening civic organizations and their unity which need urgent and immediate practical actions. He pointed out the fact that Ethiopia is hit by the drought of free organizations. Woyanne has demolished or hijacked such organizations and using them against the Diaspora. He recommended taking immediate actions to free and save these organizations.
In addition, he called for the establishment of a consortium of civic organizations as the CRDA has done for aid organizations inside Ethiopia.
Answers and explanations were given to the questions raised from the audience. Specially, many questions were asked on Ginbot7 missions and vision, and the audience was satisfied with the answers. In the meeting, the Oromo brothers and sisters expressed their happiness and hopefulness, and urged all to look forward. One member of the audiences gave his opinion on the historic day and presented one saber to the OLF leadership for their heroic action.
Finally, the meeting organizers committee representative and DCESON vice chairman Ato Matebe Melese admired and thanked the guest speakers for their explanations and presentations. Continuing his speech, he said the huge barrier which the Ethno fascist regime of Meles Zenawi has erected between Oromo and Amhara has collapsed now. Some TPLF elites have created the division to prolong their brutal and merciless rule in Ethiopian. We are happy because we are overcoming division and abolishing it. Ato Matebe closed the meeting by saying from now “We all are Oromos, Amharas, Kembatas, Gurages, Tegrians, Afars, Somalis, etc we all are Ethiopians”. The vicious Woyane propaganda will never separate us again, he said.
In the mean time, Dr. Mulualem Adam, the second moderator, conveyed the message to all Oromo brothers and sisters and others: “From today on we need to open our hearts, trust each other, love and visit each other, participate in our social happiness and sadness, feel our concern and sympathy to our nation together”. Furthermore, he asked for the audience in the sense of passionate to huge and shake hands each other, and all did with tear feeling and emotion.
Finally, the audience and the guests have exchanged views on the Ethiopian asylum seekers crises in Norway as a consequence of the repatriation agreement signed by Norway and the Ethno fascist regime of Meles Zenawi. It was shocking to witness Norway signing this agreement because it is a country where democratic and human rights are respected. Norway is the first country in the western world to enter into such an agreement on January 26, 2012. All Ethiopians, friends of Ethiopian and the rejected Ethiopian asylum seekers in Norway as well as their supporters in other parts of the world reacted to this agreement with anger, disappointment and expressed their objections through demonstrations and other means.
There was a huge demonstration in Oslo on March 2, 2012 to protest forcible repatriation, demand protection, the right of children and those who have lived in the country for many years to stay in Norway. During the demonstration the participants expressed their anger and denounced the TPLLF regime for its human right violations and chanted the slogans `Death to Meles!, Meles is a murderer!, We need justice here in Norway!, Norway should stop supporting a one man rule in Ethiopia! Norway should stand on the side of the Ethiopian people!, etc. Many demonstrations have been staged and there will be more until justice is served.
Our Unity and diversities is our strength!
